I really enjoy the use of text in the intro with "moon man" Really accents the point you're trying to make. The effect used at the end of the intro on the title was sick. Keep doing that kind of stuff, really. Effects aside, I really love the idea of bringing what we see as the past into what we see as the "future". Really puts a perspective on how things may have always (and most likely have been) beyond our own technology. Artstyle is great. Love the creativity. Whoever did the music, did a great job as well. It fits the theme, and sounds brilliant. Happily ambient.

Joemadethis responds:

Cheers! I brought over a lot of ideas for the effects from studying film and really wanted to make this animation feel like a spectacle! My friend Jack did the music, who I'm looking forward to working with for future projects, cause he's great!

Thanks for hyping me up for Mirror's Edge 2 again :D

Definitely awesome for a first try. Since you want to know, here are the wrongs and rights I came up with.
Wrongs:
-Too choppy - Try increasing frame rate, and adding more frames.
-Too slow - making the animations move quicker increases tension and makes it feel more action-like.
-Scenery - The backgrounds are a little unscaled and doesn't blend with the characters. Try creating your own.
-Music - The music didn't really compliment the actual fight. Either that, or add in sound effects.
-----
Rights (in my own opinion)
-Art - I enjoyed the sprite theme. The effects you drew are good too.
-Concept - Although a little story/dialogue entry would have made it start with meaning, the idea is pretty good. It's common enough to be understood easily, yet very flexible because of fighting possibilities. Definitely excellent to start with, I think.

Hope this helps you out to make improvements :D
Looking forward to seeing new videos. Good luck!

Great start

You got a good concept going on. But I found some things might want to improve on it.

- Menu Buttons: The menu buttons are awkward to hit and you need to move the cursor around in awkward ways to highlight them
- Instructions: The instructions are a little misleading. May want to fix that
- Magnet: You might want to put a weak magnet for the money so you don't have to be so exact when moving to try and collect the money points.

happy flashing!

imagirom responds:

thank you for the suggestions. in how far are the instructions misleading?

Oh shit dude, had no idea you were still active. I have a number of your older stuff i my library and have even dropped some during some of my DJ sessions at different events.

Anyway, I'm sure you whipped this up pretty quickly. I see you have the same style as you have, but that can be both good and bad. It's good, because I've always liked it, but it's bad because I can't hear a whole lot of improvement. I don't know, though. Maybe you're not pursuing music at all and it's just a hobby. The quality just seems 10 years late, which is fine, in fact, awesome for certain styles of games and such. Would love to see a longer version!

Jesus, the strong use of sidechain is so perfect in this. The eerie ambient vibe you're clearly going for magnifies it. If you continue this feel, keep doing it, because this method is working for you, mate. <3

Obelion responds:

Hey, frizzyo, thank you for your feedback. The sidechain in this particular track is as strong as it is for a very specific reason: The main wobble bass is not synced to the tempo, it's actually a tiny bit too fast. Hence the title. With this, I tried to create a groove, where the drum beat is steady, but still feels like every hit takes you by surprise. The strong side chain is used to mask that a little bit, so that the out of sync-wobble doesn't seem out of place. The wobble with the beat would just sound flat out wrong and misplaced, if it wasn't for the side chain!
Now that I was forced to have strong side chain set up, I abused that by making a lot of things that would sound messy without a super obvious side chain: a gigantic reverb and delay on a darkish bass plus a choiry pad layered on top of that right in the main parts. The side chain cleans that mess up and makes it sound good.
With that said, I'm really glad you enjoyed my track! I'll try to make creative use of side chain in the future again!

What ever happened to adding lyrics mate? Almost submitted something years ago
